Rest Time Today

The picture in my last post sparked a lot of questions about our rest time. We do rest time a lot differently than most people in that we do it together. It is one of my favorite times with them, where we get to snuggle up and read and take naps, and we all get refreshed for the rest of the day.

Right after lunch and a quick clean up, I put Zachary (21mo) in his own bed. I usually have them moved to the big boys' bed and family rest time before the next baby comes, but this time the baby came a bit early! So he's still in his own bed, in his own room and will probably be there for a while. He knows the routine and after he finishes lunch, he runs to his room and jumps into his bed and laughs! Have you ever heard of such a thing? He is such a sweetie--quite a handful, but a sweetie!

The three other boys and Cara usually join me on the couch, but sometimes we mix it up and have in on my bed or one of their beds. Everyone goes to the bathroom or gets a drink if they need to, then get their blanket and/or pillow if they want one.

First we read from our current readaloud. Then we have some other books we read from if I haven't passed out! Isaiah is usually out after a few minutes of reading.

Today after we finished reading our readaloud, I wanted to rest so Justin and David were looking at a book (but no talking).

After a few minutes, Justin was getting disruptive sitting next to David, so I had him go to the other couch.
Then David read the book alone,

but that didn't last long. He was soon asleep, but I didn't get a picture of that because I was asleep, too!

Ahhhh. Love rest time!

Simple Woman's Daybook

For Today...

Outside my window... snow. Lots and lots of snow.

I am thinking... that I really need to change Cara's diaper!

From the learning rooms... we're going to have a very light week--just math and reading with Bible, devotions, and read-alouds. I'm planning to do a major declutter this week!

I am thankful for... that we still have SOMETHING to eat in our pantry and freezer even though I'm not able to grocery shop for this week.

From the kitchen... I'm going to be winging it this week, at least until the snow clears up a little.

I am wearing... pajama pants and maternity shirt (No, I'm not pregnant! I just don't even bother to put my maternity stuff away!)

I am reading... Love and Logic Magic for Early Childhood. Taking it very slowly; want to make sure I retain. Some really good stuff so far.

I am hoping... to have an uneventful day and get a lot of decluttering done.

I am creating... some new school plans.

I am hearing... toy car wheels on my hardwood floor. Hardwood is so much louder than carpet.

Around the house... lots of STUFF that is about to get thrown away!

One of my favorite things... feeling joy, peace, and hope--the kind that only Jesus brings.

A few plans for the rest of the week... Decluttering, eating from the pantry, and hoping I don't have to go anywhere in all that snow.

Here is a picture thought I am sharing with you...
7yo, 3yo, and 5mo, sleeping on my bed at rest time. 1yo was in his bed and 5yo had already woken up. Unless my children are unusual, I believe children still need naps longer the most people think. Even I need one! We all take one together at the same time every day after our read-aloud after lunch. My favorite time of day!

Easy Freezer Cooking

I was first introduced to the internet world shortly after I was married and was delighted to find all the information available to stay-at-home moms/wives/homemakers. One thing I kept seeing popping up on such sites was "Once-a-month cooking". The concept sounded great but who wanted to spend ALL day in the kitchen cooking? Now, I love to cook, but not that much. So I never really pursued that venue of homemaking but continued to spend at least an hour in the kitchen cooking a full meal every night.

I still don't spend a full day cooking once a month in order to stock up my freezer, but I definitely don't have the time or energy to spend even an hour cooking every day, so over time I've developed my own method of freezer cooking that works great for me and it saves TONS of time and even more money.

The first simple thing I do is double or triple each dish that I make. This is just as easy as making one batch except now you have 3 sometimes even 4 or 5 meals to use over time.
  • When making things such as spaghetti sauce, taco meat, chili, or soups double or triple your recipe in a large pot. Separate what you didn't use that night into freezer bags. Label the bag with the contents and date and keep in the freezer for next time.
  • When making meatloaf, make 3 or 4 loaves instead of just one. This takes almost the same amount of time. Form into loaves, wrap in foil, place loaf in freezer bags, label, and freeze.
  • When making a casserole, make more and freeze in foil pans.
This can be done with almost any recipe. If you're not sure if a food will freeze, a quick Google search can tell you. Some foods such as potatoes do not freeze well.

The second thing I do is buying meat in bulk or stocking up when it's on sale, then cooking and freezing. This is a big money and time saver. I usually do this the day after I do my grocery shopping.
  • Week 1--Buy the largest package of chicken breasts (or even two). The next morning put all the chicken into the crockpot and sprinkle with a litte garlic salt. Cook all day until done. After it has cooled, store in freezer bags, either whole or chopped. The next time you need chicken breasts for a recipe it is already cooked and ready to go.
  • Week 2--Buy the huge package or ground beef. Put the whole thing in a crockpot with some salt, pepper, and garlic. Cook all day until all the meat is brown. Cooking it in the crockpot even makes it a better consistency that browning it. When it's done, put two cup portions of it into freezer bags. Two cups equals one pound.
  • Week 3--Buy another large ground beef. This one is a bit more time consuming but worth it in the end. Mix in a large bowl the ground beef, one egg per pound, some bread or cracker crumbs and whatever seasoning you like--I use garlic salt and onion flakes. Form half into patties and the other half into meatballs. Place the patties and meatballs on baking sheets and put into the freezer until frozen. This is called flash freezing. After they have frozen put into freezer bags--one for the patties and one for the meatballs. Now they are already formed for hamburgers, hamburger steaks, spaghetti and meatballs, or any other recipe.
After this cycle you will probably be set in the meat department. You can do this for almost any kind of meat--pork, beef, etc. but our family mostly eats ground beef and chicken breasts. As each kind of meat runs out, buy another package and do it all over again.

Here are a couple more.
  • Buy large bags of onions and green peppers. Chop and saute and freeze in bags for later use.
  • When using whole chickens save the bones and skin and make chicken broth to freeze.
  • When you have just a little meat, vegetables, or pasta left over from a meal put into a jar in the freezer and keep adding to it. This eventually makes a surprisingly good soup.
All this may be old news or common sense to most people, but it's something I've just figured out within the last few years and has saved us so much money and time.

My Apron

For years I have wanted an apron, but never found one that suited me. I wanted something cute and almost stylish, yet still functional. The other day, I finally found one, and for $6 at that!

Isn't it cute? I have so enjoyed wearing it the past few days. I hope to find another one soon as I will need another one when this one is in the wash! Why on earth would anyone need an apron today? Here is a lovely article by Nancy Campbell from Above Rubies that may just inspire you to want one too!

WHERE’S MY APRON?

by Nancy Campbell

What would I do without my aprons? They are an indispensable part of my homemaking equipment and I have a pile sitting in my pantry.

I use them to protect my clothes.

Without aprons my clothes would be ruined. I have never been very good at working in good clothes. I have a dear friend who can paint in her high heels and Sunday clothes and not get a drop of paint on her. I am sure she is just as good in her kitchen. Not me. When I paint, I have paint all over me. When I work, I get stuck in, and invariably get dirty marks on my clothes. I don’t like to go around like a rag bag and therefore need an apron to cover me when working in the kitchen.

I have working aprons and pretty frilly aprons for special occasions. However, I rarely used my pretty aprons. When it is time for the meal, I take my apron off to sit at the table. If we have visitors coming, I throw it off as I hear their car coming in the drive. Now all my guests know my secret!

I use them to wipe my hands.

I keep a towel hanging in my kitchen to wipe my hands. However, I find it much easier to wipe them on my apron. It is right on me and I don’t have to walk a step to do it. Consequently, my aprons become stained and dirty, but isn’t that what they are for!

For awhile I got into the habit of throwing my tea-towel over my shoulder on which I could wipe my hands as necessary while preparing food etc. One time I had to urgently pop down to Office Max to do some photocopying. I wondered why so many people looked very interestingly at me. I thought I must have looked very special that day – until I got home and looked in the mirror. There was my dirty tea-towel draping across my shoulder! Help! Back to aprons!

I use them as a basket.

It is so convenient to go out to the garden and gather my harvest for supper – zucchini, cucumbers, squash, basil, tomatoes, lettuce etc. All I have to do is lift up the bottom of my apron and I have a perfect basket to carry them inside. When gathering “things” that have accumulated upstairs and need to be taken down, once again, all I have to do is lift my apron to carry them all down. And if your apron has a pocket or two, they are even more versatile.

It is my symbol as Manager of my home.

I do not put on my apron to sit around the house. I put on my apron to work. Although all our children have grown and have now established their own homes, we still currently have nine of us living in the home – and usually extras beside that for the evening meal. I have great work to do. It is not insignificant. And when I put on my apron I am aware I am accomplishing good things.

There are young wives today who do not even own an apron. They are missing an important part of the baton that should have been passed on to them. Of course, you don’t need an apron when you don’t work in the home. You don’t need an apron to pop a microwave dinner in the microwave, get pre-packaged food out of the freezer or open some tins of something for supper. However, when you prepare food from scratch as I do, you need an apron.

Aprons are symbolic of hearth and home. Sandy Driver writes, (1)“The symbol of homemaking most vividly emblazoned in my memory is bright yellow with four large black and white polka dot pockets lining the front. Mother made it from scraps early in her domestic career to hold lots of wooden clothespins. She called it her "hanging out clothes apron" and never dared cook a meal with it on.

"It's too ragged," she said with a discerning look. I would have gladly worn it all day long because it smelled like sunshine and felt like home. When I wrapped those strings around my waist, I was a Mommy, which was every little girl's dream in that long ago era. I loved to fill the empty pockets with crayons, rubber balls and little metal jacks while our sheets and socks blew in the afternoon breeze.

“When my aunt Mamie died a few years back, I added one of her green flowered aprons to my nostalgic collection. It was my daughter's favorite when she was a toddler and she insisted on wearing it whenever she played with her assortment of dolls, even though the big wide strings wrapped around her tiny body three times. "I have to wear an apron to be the Mommy," she proclaimed. I have taught her well.”

A lady named Maggie writes, “I wear my aprons every day now I have come to believe they are like lacy bits of lingerie, only worn on the outside, and a quite a bit more respectable. When I put on my aprons the children mind me better, wandering visitors immediately know my role as a stay at home mom. Fred thinks I look cute as a button, and neighbor children hug me more often.

I like my aprons. They have changed my life, raising my standards, inspiring me to greater feats of home making skills, and making me more effective as a parent. Whoever thought that a dollars worth of fabric and lace could effect so many changes on one woman and one family?”

A friend of mine, Terry Leib writes, (2) “Woven into the cloth of an apron are unseen threads of a sweet feminine spirit, a spirit of meekness, humility and contentment. That little flap of frilly, feminine fabric tied around a woman’s waist symbolized her acceptance of her role and duties. It was her badge of honor, and represented submission to God, and to her husband. Without saying one word, or one syllable, it shouted, “I am a woman, made from a man. My place is at home, guiding the house, loving my husband, loving my children, teaching my children to love, honor and obey God by my example in obeying God’s Word and my own husband.” Its strings gently tug at us, tenderly, softly calling us to turn back to the old ways, the Biblical ways of order in the home.”

At the turn of the century, children could identify the days of the weeks by the different apron their mother wore each day. I have aprons that tie at the waist and barbecue style aprons, but my favorite is one that was given to me by a lady who attended an Above Rubies Retreat. It is one that completely covers my clothes. I think she made it from Simplicity Pattern #3064 B.

Apart from putting on my material apron, I am challenged to put on the attitude apron. 1 Peter 5:5 Williams says, “You must all put on the servant’s apron of humility to one another, because God opposes the haughty but bestows His unmerited favor on the humble.” The apron is an emblem of servanthood. It’s good to not only put on our apron, ready to work hard in the home, but to have the same attitude in our hearts. When we wear the servant’s apron of humility, no task will seem too menial or too difficult to accomplish.

GRANDMA’S APRON

The principle use of Grandma’s apron was to protect the dress underneath, but along with that, it served as a holder for removing hot pans from the oven. It was wonderful for drying children’s tears, and, on occasion, was even used for cleaning out dirty ears.

From the chicken coop the apron was used for carrying eggs, fussy chicks, and sometimes half-hatched eggs to be finished in the warming oven. When company came those aprons were ideal hiding places for shy children. And when the weather was cold, Grandma wrapped it around her arms. Those big old aprons wiped many a perspiring brow, bent over the hot wood stove. Chips and kindling wood were brought into the kitchen in that apron.

From the garden, it carried all sorts of vegetables. After the peas had been shelled, it carried out the hulls. In the fall the apron was used to bring in apples that had fallen from the trees. When unexpected company drove up the road, it was surprising how much furniture that old apron could dust in a matter of seconds. When dinner was ready, Grandma walked out onto the porch, waved her apron, and the men knew it was time to come in from the fields to dinner.

It will be a long time before someone invents something that will replace that “old-time apron” that served so many purposes.

My Drawer

The other day I cleaned out the top drawer of my bedside table to keep all my favorite things that I needed there and I just had to share. Why yes, I am easily amused. Why do you ask? :-)

This is my bedside table with my book basket. My bed is my sanctuary after a long day of being surrounded by little people all day, I get to be alone in the quiet and read! (My husband goes to sleep very early because he gets up very early.)

Here is the inside of my drawer:

My Stormie Omartian prayer books God gave me. My green bible that I'm currently using. Underneath my bible is my cute little pink laptop. The pink planner I'm currently using. Underneath is a journal/notebook. And the little rectangle thing over that is a little pouch for pens, highlighters, and the adorable post-it book markers I found the other day.

I just have to show you the things that are covered up.

This is my little birdy journal. Isn't it adorable? I would love to have that print in a bag or diaper or mei tai or something. So cute. I use this for journaling or just jotting down notes or ideas or rough drafts of plans I'm making. Also, the pages are perforated, so they make really cute stationary too.

And this. Oh how do I love thee, little pink laptop? :-D

Of course, the bible, planner, and laptop don't live in this drawer during the day. They travel with me from room to room as I go about my day. But this is their beginning and ending place by my bed and I love it. My little spot, my sanctuary. Think I'll go there now...

Happy Birthday, Justin!

Friday was Justin's birthday. Seven years old. How can it be?

I got pregnant only two months after we got married. I was ecstatic because I wanted to get pregnant on the honeymoon and the two cycles I had that it didn't happen, I was devastated! I was thrilled, but I can't say most other people were approving. We had only just gotten married, Kevin didn't have a good job, we were so young. It was definiltey not the "right time" to have a baby. But from the very beginning we had chosen to let God decide when we'd have a baby (that was back before I even knew anyone else had made the same decision!). It wasn't man's right time, but the positive pregnancy test said that it was God's time!

When he was born, I felt so complete. This is what I had dreamed of my whole life and here was my perfect baby boy! But at the same time, I was totally overwhelmed. Even though I had experience with babies because of my siblings, motherhood was a whole other story. Now, I can literally nurse, change, and care for babies in my sleep! But then, as a 20-year-old new mother, I felt way in over my head. I remember looking down at him in his crib when he was six weeks old, completely exhaused, and thinking, "There is no way I can have more than one! How am I going to live through this?"

It is so funny to think that I felt that way now! And I'm so glad that I didn't let my feelings then allow me to waver in my decision to accept all God's blessings!

Now my Justin is truly a blessing to me. I don't know what I would do without my right hand man! He's incredibly smart, he's a natural born leader, and my favorite thing about him, he truly has a heart for the Lord and amazing insight into spiritual things. He loves sports and music and of course, video games. He's a huge help to me and is always ready and willing to serve. I couldn't ask for a better first child than I got in Justin
His name Justin Alexander means "Just Leader" and I pray that he will always live up to that name, that his leadership will always be just and he will walk in the ways of the Lord all the days of his life.
Happy Birthday, Justin!

Another thing about Justin: he hates wearing shirts. It was hard for me to find a picture of him with a shirt on! I just can't keep shirts on that boy!

Another New Blog

I was getting so tired of digging through a pile of scraps of paper every time I needed one of my own recipes. I decided that I HAD to get those things organized. I was thinking of different options--a traditional recipe box, a binder, typed up on the computer? Then I had an idea. I can put them in blog format! It's something I already know how to do, they will be easy to access, and others can access them too. As long as I have internet access, I'll be all set!

So I started on it last night and hope to add a recipe or two every day that I can.

My new recipe blog is HERE.

Seeds Family Worship

Our family loves Seeds Family Worship. We like to listen to it in the car and while we're cleaning the kitchen. It is nothing but scripture set to good music for both children and adults. There is nothing like having the Bible stuck in your head!
There are currently five CD's and they are all awesome.

In addition to their wonderful CD's, their website is jamb packed with resources for children and families, including downloadable memory cards to go along with all the songs, a verse memorization checklist, family worship ideas, and more. You can also listen to many of the songs there.

One of the best things about them is that each CD package comes with 2 CD's--one to keep and one to give away!

Since they know I love them so much, they've given me a coupon code to share to save 20% off at their store. Use coupon code JTHOMAS09 to get a great deal on some great music for your family.

For Today...

Outside my window... dark and windy

I am thinking... about something new I'm going to try at home this week--it's a new way of cleaning, school, and almost everything we will do. If it works out, I'll tell about it next week!

From the learning rooms...We finished the first book of the Chronicles of Narnia and I'm trying to decide if we're going to go into book two or take a Narnia break and read something else. As as side note, I do hope they make a movie of The Magician's Nephew!

I am thankful for... getting to spend a Sunday evening at home with my family.

From the kitchen...My menu plan this week:
Beans and rice (that we ended up not having last week)
Green Chili Burrito Bake
Chicken with Fried Rice and Egg Rolls
Mushroom Pork Chops
Friday--eating out for Justin's birthday!

I am wearing... polka dot pajama pants and an air force t-shirt--I'm headed to bed!

I am reading... Becoming the Woman God Wants Me to Be

I am hoping... to have a productive week and to overcome a bit of laziness I've had lately.

I am creating... my new updated planner. It is so fun!

I am hearing... the refrigerator running and the clock ticking. ahhhhh--quiet!

Around the house... many loads of clean laundry waiting to be put away. Someday.

One of my favorite things... listening to my 20mo say new things every day and being astounded at how smart he is!

A few plans for the rest of the week... my new experiment and Justin's birthday on Friday. Do I really have a SEVEN-year-old???

Here is a picture thought I am sharing with you...

Meal Planning

I'm still slowly giving my planner an update and thought I would share my weekly menus and my dinner menu planning system. I used this several years ago and am not sure why I stopped, but am now using it again. It takes the headache out of making my grocery list every week.

I admit that I'm not a morning person and that most mornings cold cereal or toast made by 6yo is all that's on the menu. But I am doing better and actually make breakfast a few days a week--a very simple breakfast, but I'm proud even of that! All these breakfasts include fruit if we have it and milk.

M--Eggs and toast
T--Oatmeal
W--Waffles, pancakes, or french toast
Th-Cereal
F--Toast, cinnamon toast, or cheese toast
S--Muffins, biscuits and chocolate gravy (my husband's favorite), or sausage biscuits
Su-Cereal

I enjoy big breakfasts, but when we do have them, they're for supper ;-)

For lunch we eat leftovers if we have them, however, leftovers are becoming more and more rare around here! If we don't have any, we follow this menu which includes veggies if we have them and juice.

M--PB&J (this one is with milk of course!)
T--Mac and cheese or Mac and Mae (macaroni and tomato sauce--shredded cheese optional. My kids LOVE this!)
W--Sandwiches or wraps (tuna, chicken or egg salad, deli meat, cheese)
Th-Baked potato or salad
F--Mexican--quesadillas, burritos, nachos, etc (our favorite lunch day!)
Sa-Whatever we can find!
Su-eat out

For making my dinner menu for the week, I start by looking at the week's menu at www.menus4moms.com to see if there are any new recipes I want to try. I also like to try a new recipe from my Food and Family magazine, or just any new recipe I came across. Then I fill in the blanks with my meal list.

I made a list of 31 meals our family likes, which gives us a different meal for each day of the month. For instance, this week I had to plan meals for the 17-19 of March, so I looked at the list of meals and chose meals 17, 18, and 19. I didn't have to think about it or search the internet for half an hour for meal ideas. They were there and I already knew we liked them and they would fit into our budget.

On this same note, I read a really good ebook about meal planning the other night and it was free. If you sign up for the A Minute With Molly email newsletter, you can download her Menu Planning ebook for free. Sign up at Econobusters. In is she shares a similar menu planning systers, free forms to help you, tips for saving money, and some really awesome recipes!

Routines

Even though most days I run off the schedule, there are times where that's just not possible. There are busy days that I have places to go, there are days someone (or everyone) is sick. There are seasons of life like early or late pregnancy, or a new baby, when the days are crazy (I'm just now emerging from one of those ;-). Even on those days, I still have to have a backup plan and that's when I follow my routines. They give me structure like a schedule with the freedom to make room for interruptions, fatigue, morning sickness, or like yesterday, teething. Here are mine.

Bless Your Family

Do not take your family for granted. Treasure it. Enjoy it. Make the most of your times together. Don't spoil these precious times with rude or hurtful words. Instead, pour love, joy, and blessing into your marriage and family. What you pour in will be what you reap.

Every principle of God is an eternal principle that cannot be broken. God's Word in Galatians 6:7 will always be fulfilled, "Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man sows, that shall he also reap." What you sow into your marriage and into your family life is what you will reap. It will come back to haunt you or to bless you. It will affect not only the lives of your family, but your own life also. The blessing of your life depends upon how you bless your family.

God Gives Emotional Wholeness

I love to hear what other people use in their times alone with God. I'm the type of person who thrives on solitude and quietness, and I'm also a very private worshiper. I could not make it through one day without sitting alone at His feet and drinking in His love for me. How does anyone live without Him???

I am so thankful that God blessed us with His Word so that we can hear from Him and learn His ways, and I'm also thankful that He has anointed other people to expound on His Word to help us dig deeper and really apply it to our lives. In addition to my Bible, I also read my old Above Rubies magazines as a devotional. What an incredible ministry of encouragement for Christian women!

I also have two books that, now that I have them, would be some of the things I would grab if my house were on fire! You've heard me sing the praises of A Book of Prayer before. It's a collection of all the prayers from five of Stormie Omartian's Power of a Praying... books. A couple months ago, I was browsing through the leftovers of a bookstore going out of business and saw another book like it called Prayers for Emotional Wholeness.

When I saw that title, it was like God Himself was standing there handing it to me. If you know me at all, you know how I deal with emotions! I can be an emotional wreck and I'm the type of person who can really be ruled by that. Emotional issues have taken their toll on my marriage, my children, almost every part of my life. And being perpetually pregnant and/or nursing definitely doesn't help!

Anyway, I bought this book for practically nothing and added it to my quiet time stack and it truly was a gift from God to me. I wouldn't hesitate to say it has changed my life.

Isn't it amazing how almost every time we read the Bible there is something that just speaks to us exactly about what we're going through? And no matter what prayer I'm on that day, I know that God orchestrated that I would read that prayer on that day. Sometimes it is unreal and nothing can explain it except that it's God!

Knowing Him is the only thing that makes life worth living.

Monday!

Ahhhh--it's Monday! My favorite day of the week! I'm sitting here barely awake, nursing Cara Grace, while my four boys are running wild around me. Justin made breakfast this morning--instant oatmeal in the microwave--and the kitchen is a wreck as a result. But it's worth it to not have everyone bombard me with their breakfast orders the second I walk in here. I'm not a morning person--can you tell?

But I'm ready for a week at home. It was a crazy weekend that brought me no relaxation at all. My plans this week are just to enjoy being here, homeschooling and being with my children and getting whatever work done that I can--no stress. I'm looking forward to basking in the presence of God in my home this week. I've been around so many people this weekend, I'm feeling pretty far away from Him. Am I the only one like this? I'm also looking forward to some QUANTITY time with my kids after feeling disconnected from them all weekend. I am so thankful for homeschooling, or I would feel like I didn't know them at all!

Here is our menu plan this week in no particular order:
Enchiladas
Soup beans
Beans and rice (from the leftover soup beans)
Hamburgers
Baked Chicken

I try to have beans at least every other week. One bag lasts us at least two meals. We have learned to love them, especially in mexican dishes, and they take a nice chunk out of your grocery bill.

Well, that's enough randomness for now. Time to get started on a busy day!

Our Daily Schedule

Now that things have been calming down here a little, I've found some time to try to get reorganized. With every new season of life, I have to completely change the way I do things! I'm having to redo my entire planner, make new schedules, new lists--everything is different!

I so wish I had made a new schedule sooner. Since I finally got a new one made for us, things have run much more smoothly. I am just the type that, without a schedule, I just don't know what to do. I have a couple children who are like that as well. Even the children who entertain themselves nicely without a schedule do so much better on one. A schedule teaches them self-discipline, reinforces the fact that they are not in charge, and just plain keeps them on task. It also cuts down GREATLY on behavior issues--in ALL of us!

Even when I do not have a schedule, our days flow in very defined routines that have become like breathing to us over the years. However, having routines and a stricter schedule are like night and day in the difference it makes in our lives. I just need that structure.

The most important thing to remember when following a schedule is that I am the boss of the schedule--it's not the boss of me! It's there to help me, not to rule me. It's a guide for my day, not a list of required tasks. I think when we're able to find the perfect balance between following a schedule and feeling free is when we find the most peace and joy in our ministry of being at home.

Here is our current schedule. It has been working well for us for the past two weeks, but it's liable to change any day. Life is always changing, so our schedule does too! I'll share more of my schedules and lists as I get them into my reorganized planner.

New Blog!

I am formerly Homekeeping Heart from Xanga, but I have made a fresh start here at blogger and I love it. It sure has changed a lot since I first had a blog here 5 or 6 years ago! Now I know why almost everyone uses it!

For those who don't already know me, I am a homeschooling mom to five beautiful children ages 7, 5, 3, 1, and 4 months. Four boys and a baby girl! I absolutely love my life and feel so blessed to be able to live my dreams!

I blog about my life, my days, my children, homeschooling, homemaking (I try!), marriage, my relationship with God, biblical womanhood, and stuff I love!

I'm so excited to be starting a new chapter here with my new blog--same name, different location, and an ever-growing me!
